If you are too busy to
spend time with God, you are too busy!
If Satan can’t make you
bad, he’ll make you busy!
“Be still and know that
I am God.” Psalm 46:10
The greatest enemy of
getting to know God is busyness.
I – WHAT IS QUIET TIME?
Brief Description: A
quiet time is basically time alone
with God in His Word and in prayer.
Detailed Definition: A quiet time is a period of time you set
aside to be alone with God, usually in the morning, to talk to Him and to listen
to Him as you prepare to be used by Him that day.
A. PERIOD
OF TIME – a few minutes to hours (not necessarily an in-depth Bible study)
“I don’t have
time” = “It’s not important
enough”.
The greatest
evidence of love is T-I-M-E
B. YOU
SET IT ASIDE – no one else can do it for you.
C. ALONE
WITH GOD – away from distractions.
D. USUALLY
IN THE MORNING
“Let the morning
bring me word of Your unfailing love... Show me the way I should go...” Psalm
143:8
Like a map for
your day – God’s plan. Suppose you’re not a morning person: Even 1
minute helps. Then take more time later
in the day.
E. TALK
TO GOD (Prayer) “O God, you are
my God, earnestly I seek You: my soul thirsts for You...” Psalm 63:1
F. LISTEN
TO GOD (His Word) and write down what He’s teaching you.
“He wakens me
morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.” Isaiah
50:4b
Teachable
Spirit: a desire to learn
“My people are
doomed because they do not acknowledge Me.
You... have rejected My teaching, and so I reject you.” Hosea 4:6
“...when you
stop learning, you will soon neglect what you already know.” Proverbs
19:27 You are either growing or falling away.
To retain God’s
instruction, it is important to put it in writing.
G. PREPARE
TO BE USED BY GOD The key to a prosperous day is getting off on the right
track.
II. WHY IS A QUIET TIME
SO IMPORTANT?
A. IMPORTANCE TO GOD. You were created for fellowship. Illus.: robots
B. IMPORTANCE
TO YOU. You need Him. Your actions show
whether you
desire
to spend time with Him.
“This book of
the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and
night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it;
for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have SUCCESS.
The key to success = A DAILY quiet time with a teachable SPIRIT.
Part 1: CONSISTENT discipline
Part 2: Desire to OBEY
Sounds easy –
Satan will fight every way imaginable.
He will...
·
Make you tired.
·
Distract you.
·
Help you make excuses.
III. WHY NOT GIVE IT A TRY? Let’s summarize:
·
A quiet
time is basically a time alone with God in His Word and in prayer.
·
It is important to God because He desires our
fellowship.
·
It is important to you because you need that
fellowship and it is the key to success.
If you would commit yourself to
give God 1/100th of a 16-hour day, that would be 9.6 minutes. Don’t you think you could give Him the first
1/100th of your day to show a little gratitude for all that He will
bless you with the other 99/100th?
